The time machine is a pedal like no other, one that expands your sound-creating potential through a variety practical functions. The delay time is adjustable over a broad range – from 30ms slapback to nearly six full seconds of delay*. You can also use the tap tempo switch to set the delay as triplets, eighth notes, dotted eighth notes, or quarter notes depending on the delay range position setting. The chicken-head knobs that are a VOX tradition (and also favored by Joe) allow you to make fine adjustments – even while holding a pick – so it's easy to make quick yet precise changes. There are also two OUTPUT jacks, so the unprocessed "dry" sound and the processed "wet" sound can be output separately. By connecting these two jacks to different amps, you can obtain spacious delay sounds that are highly effective in any playing environment.

The COOLTRON Over the Top Boost effect pedal uses a 12AU7 preamp-type tube at low voltage to deliver the kind of tone that, until now, would have been impossible to achieve in a battery-powered pedal.
Blast your tone over the edge and back. The OTTB puts the top boost channel of a VOX AC30 into an effect pedal. The Treble control can take your tone from cutting attack at one extreme to smooth and liquidy at the other, while the Bass control adds low-end girth at higher settings and a warm round smoothness at lower settings.
The OTTB even comes with a Cut control to add or remove higher frequencies at the turn of a knob. Vary the overall gain of the pedal from bluesy and mellow to fat and saturated. Or use the Standard/Custom switch to either make the EQ very interactive in Standard mode, or have it behave more like a traditional AC30 Hand Wired in Custom mode. You can use the Vox OTTB as a booster pedal to drive the input of your amp by setting the Gain low and the Volume high. Conversely, set the Gain high and the Volume low for an overdrive from the pedal itself.
Want to know how it all works?
Normally, tubes are used at high voltages and this restricts their use in battery-powered devices such as guitar effects pedals. Historically, attempts have been made to use tubes at low voltages in what has been dubbed "starvation" mode, but these circuits don't allow the tube to function in an acceptable manner. The tube simply cannot be biased to a satisfactory operating condition. Plus, the necessary heater (filament) current is too high to deliver acceptable battery life. Imagine how annoying it would be to have to change batteries every ten minutes during a gig!

Vox Valve Reactor Circuit Delivers True Tube Sound
The power amp section on the ToneLab range features our patented Vox Valve Reactor circuitry that was introduced in our Valvetronix amplifiers. This unique technology enables ToneLab and Tonelab SE to provide the sound, feel and dynamic range that, until now, were only possible with a multitude of all-tube amplifiers. The Valve Reactor circuit uses a 12AX7/ECC83 dual triode vacuum tube, a virtual output transformer and a dummy speaker circuit that simulates impedance changes of a real speaker. In other words though the output power (level) is low, it has the same power amp circuit as an actual full-tube amp, and faithfully reproduces the response of the power amp circuits of the original amp that is being modeled. It reconfigures itself so that its characteristics are the same as the amps it's modeling (class A, class AB, negative feedback circuit, etc.) This means that all of the nuances of the original amp model including sound, feel, distortion and presence are reproduced.
Sophisticated Modeling Technology
Starting with Vox's own AC30, the 16 types of historic amp sounds in Tonelab and Tonelab SE range from hard-to-obtain vintage amps to costly high-end amps. From clean sounds to extreme high-gain distortion, these models cover a wide range of tonal possibilities. Cabinet modeling reproduces the acoustical character of ten different types of cabinet shapes and speaker types. Even when you use the line output for direct recording, ToneLab delivers a superb sense of spatial realism and depth.
